Does my child need tutoring?
The comments we often hear from parents in our center are: "I really wish we'd done this earlier" or "I wish I had gotten my child help when he/she was younger."
Families have the mistaken idea that educational tutoring is for kids who are failing all their classes or "the rich." In reality, about 90% of our our parents are ordinary Elk Grove families who recognize the importance of academics and the need for quick intervention when their child is struggling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a typical tutoring session like?
A student will walk in and then sign in before grabbing their assigned binder (with all the supplies they need!). They'll be greeted by their teacher and work on a customized program that focuses on their needs (based on their initial academic assessment). Depending on the student, the program might primarily focus on phonics and reading practice or foundational math skills and additional practice problems. Some students have programs that are mostly targeting building a stronger vocabulary and writing skills.
How will I know how my student is doing?
We have scheduled parent/guardian meetings every 4-6 weeks to go over goals, measure progress, and provide program updates. With your permission, we also check in periodically with your child's school teacher(s) to assess school performance. Your child's academic success is a team effort!
What kind of curriculum do you use?
Our learning center has over 300 pieces of curriculum that cover phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, math, and study skills. We teach school aligned Common Core math along with other proven strategies.
Are your tutors trained? What kind of backgrounds do they have?
Unlike other learning centers, our teachers hold college degrees and have experience and passion working for with students. Many have additional certifications or degrees, including teaching credentials, TESOL certifications, and Masters or Ph.D. degrees. We are also accredited through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, so all of our teachers complete an accredited training course.
Do you assign homework?
Between school homework and time at Huntington Learning Center, we don't believe additional homework is necessary or effective. Instead, based on our professional experience, we recommend reinforced practice at home, such as reading out loud, vocabulary building, math facts practices, etc. (We share our tips and strategies for incorporating these into daily life with our families!)
Do you work with ESL students or have ESL classes?
Yes, we have a passion for helping ESL / ELL students! Many of our teachers are bilingual or multilingual, and we recognize the incredible benefits of multiple languages, as well as the unique challenges of learning English as a secondary language. We have also helped numerous students successfully transition from schools abroad to local American public and private schools.
